Major Demo Update - 0.9.3
Hello All,
Been pretty busy with life lately. Last fall I became a father so a lot of my time has been occupied with that. That said, I still have managed to carve out time to work on Stellar Fury. A lot of the past 8 months has been working on later content in the game and the endless refining of level and enemy design. I have recently, however made some notable changes to the core game and thought that releasing an updated demo was due. These changes were implemented over the last few months so this may not be an exhaustive list.
- Complete midboss/boss design overhaul
- Complete visual rework of all enemies
- Redesign of player ships. Player ships are now 30% or so larger (hit box remains the same size)
- Rework of the Rank system. Rank now plays more an important part of the gameplay.
- Rank calculations are now based on how close you are to the enemy when you kill it.
- More enemy spawns at higher ranks
- Power upgrades at max rank
- Separated enemy hurt/hit boxes. Previously both were the size of the sprite, now the "hurt box" - i.e. what will hurt you if you collide with it is much smaller. Figured this is probably a good change considering the game focus on close range/point blanking.
- Lots of new popups for score events
- Improved/more granular UI options (including options to disable these aforementioned popup events)
- Autobomb features when
- You have max bombs (5) - all bombs will be consumed
- Full special energy (this might be OP - we will see...)
- When you are firing your special and you are in range to perform a clear and if you take a hit, you will execute the clear (even if you do not release the fire key) instead of dying.
Development of this game seems to go on and on and I wonder some days if I will ever finish. In the spirit of finishing a game I've decided to cut a few things. I may circle back to them in a post-launch update
- Many of the player ships. I decided to focus on 3 player ships and ensure they are all distinctive and well balanced
- Some of the sub weapons (picking 5 of 8 to remain in the game)
- Normal mode visual variants. I made all new graphics for enemies when you play in Normal difficulty. These will now use the same graphic s the Veteran version. I am shelving the actual artwork done for a potential future post launch update (maybe add a second caravan mode?)
